The Trimulfrac Challenge
An operator in the Permian Basin was executing a trimulfrac job, which required high precision and vast amounts of water across multiple well pads. The challenge was to ensure a continuous, uninterrupted water supply while keeping costs low, maintaining safety standards, and optimizing the project timeline. This job demanded reliable water sourcing and efficient transfer systems capable of handling large volumes.

Innovative Solutions
Select was responsible for providing a comprehensive water management solution tailored to meet the demanding requirements of this advanced trimulfrac job.
Water Sourcing: To ensure the availability of water, brackish water was sourced locally from a landowner, while Select supplemented with treated produced water. A total of 1,869,558 barrels of treated produced water was sourced from Select’s Morita facility, which provided essential flexibility to maintain consistent operations.
Water Transfer: Select utilized 20 miles of Tideline™ water transfer hose, providing a faster rate of transfer and the ability to operate at higher pressures than traditional layflat hoses. Tideline’s chemical resistance and ability to withstand up to 250 psi enabled efficient water delivery to the frac site, achieving transfer rates as high as 220 barrels per minute. This advanced solution replaced outdated layflat hoses, driving greater efficiency and reliability on the job.
Drag Reducing Agent (DRA) Chemistry: The application of PreSliq drag reducing agent improved water transfer efficiency by enabling larger volumes to move quickly through the Tideline hoses while maintaining optimal pressure. This led to lower operational costs and increased project efficiency.
Automation: Automated equipment, including transfer pumps and real-time monitoring systems played a pivotal role in reducing costs and boosting productivity. Automation ensured seamless integration of water sources directly at the frac site, further enhancing project efficiency.
Key Outcomes
Safety & Reliability: The job was completed with zero safety incidents, maintaining 99.99% uptime throughout the project. This flawless execution underscores Select’s commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
This project represents a transformative advancement in hydraulic fracturing in the Permian basin, allowing operators to fracture multiple wells simultaneously.
